Eyes on the Field
Eyes on the Field was a farm visit and dinner event that explored biodiversity using all of our senses.
During the farm visit, participants went on species-quests: observing, identifying and making connections between the organisms living there. Findings from those quests were transformed into a multi-course and multi-sensory dinner experience at Venn Canteen.
The event also introduced BITZ, a digital tool developed by Nicetrails and Genomic Gastronomy to help users observe, record and reflect on biodiversity in specific places.
Workshop
A farm site visit where a group of 10–15 participants used digital and analogue tools, including a web-hosted app and a printed field guide, to count biodiversity on the farm and learn about the different wild and cultivated species growing onsite.
- Participants left from Porto and travelled to Formiga Gloriosa.
- The workshop included hello, intro, farm visit, tools overview and setup.
- A light packed lunch by Venn and a discussion/reflection moment were included.
Dinner
The multi-sensorial dinner drew directly from species observed during the biodiversity workshop at the farm. Guests began with an immersive audiovisual installation in the basement before sitting down to a menu inspired by wild plants, companion species and ecological stories.
The menu included a welcome drink, starter, two savoury dishes and dessert, all developed in relation to what had been noticed in the field.
